Low Maintenance Ways to Make Your Site More Sticky

By Paul Reilly

If your a newbie, you're forgiven for wondering what, exactly, I mean by sticky. The more experienced web-heads among you will know that the sticky factor of a website is what make visitors return time and time again.

The best way to make your site sticky is to add new content on a regular basis, weekly, daily or even hourly, but that kind of maintenance takes time and costs money to carry out manually and time is something, if you're anything like me, is probably very precious.

There are, however, many ways you can make your site sticky without resorting to high maintenance editorial, here are some of the best ways to add content that changes without the need for any ongoing maintenance what so ever.

Here are just some of them...

1) Add Syndicated content

http://www.moreover.com Moreover have a range of news feeds that can be configured to deliver stories based on the keywords you select.

http://www.isyndicate.com Isyndicate also offer news headlines taken from leading titles including the Guardian and Billboard magazine, not to mention weather reports, horoscopes, literally hundreds of other free and paid content sources and interactive tools guaranteed to keep 'em coming back time and time again.

http://www.freesticky.com Freesticky provide a directory full of sticky content for your site and best of all, it's free.

2) Add a discussion board

A discussion board adds interactivity to your site, so you'll find that your visitors will in some cases return hourly.

Here are just some of the many free discussion board scripts.

Depending on your server, choose the scripting language that is available to you.

http://worldwidemart.com/ (Perl)

http://phorum.org/ (PHP)

http://forum.snitz.com/ (ASP)

3) Add a "Hot Threads Ticker"
If you run an Internet marketing related site, then a "hot threads ticker" is a must have. "Hot Threads" delivers hand selected threads taken daily from over 180 internet marketing discussion boards, the threads are delivered via an easy to install applet. you simply copy and paste the code into your html page in seconds. Hot threads is currently free at http://www.discussmarketing.com/ and is highly recommended.
